In an effort to get a clearer picture of what people look for in a Wordpress theme, I’ve put together a short survey. If you use Wordpress and can spare a couple of minutes to answer a few questions, please complete my Wordpress Theme Survey.
Take the Wordpress Theme Survey
Hopefully your answers will help me create new Wordpress Themes which will cater closely to your needs…
If you have any other thoughts which you think might be helpful, feel free to comment here.

Hi Ed,
I suppose the survey questions come after submitting this comment, so if they don’t this will look a bit silly. But I want to take this opportunity to offer my spare time to you in translating all words and phrases of your Ocean Mist theme into Dutch. If you’re interested, just let me know and I’m your man ;-)
All the best,
Stefan

Ed, I am using your “Ocean Mist” layout on my wordpress page. The only thing I would like to see change is the page tabs…I like having the “HOME” tab instead of having to click on the top of the page in order to take me to my main page….furthermore, it would be nice if I could rename the “HOME” tab….

Hi Ed, I’m enjoying using Ocean Mist - do you know if there’s a widget I can add for “books I’m reading” or something of the kind? Thanks!

Thanks to everyone who’s been completing the survey, I’m getting some really useful results which I’ll publish here shortly. The wider the sample the better though, so if you haven’t taken the survey already, please do… It only takes a minute or two.
@Stefan: thanks for the offer, but I’m planning a new version of Ocean Mist which should be ready in the next few months so perhaps you’d be interested in translating that version once it’s complete…
@tommy frederico: To add a “Home” tab, just edit header.php in the theme editor.
Just add
<li><a href="http://yoururl.com/">Home</a></li>directly before:
<?php wp_list_pages('title_li='); ?>.Remember to change the link to point to your homepage…
@Ryanbd: Sorry, I’m not really up to date with plugins and don’t really know what’s available.

Ed,
I am indeed. Don’t hesitate to contact me on this whenever you’re ready!
It’s currently not yet clear to me what is defined by a theme and what is driven by WordPress, but considering a new theme I have some thoughts:
- Ability to add a small image (logo) in the top bar (in the right angle of where the title is now on the left)
- Possibility to select categories for a “page” so that links to new posts containing this category are automatically added to this page
- Create an agenda preferably as a widget in the sidebar, or else as a type of posts that don’t automatically appear on the main page
- Don’t show categories underneath each post
Have fun with your new theme ;-)

Hi Ed,
I’m like one of those people in your survey who are NOT experienced in CSS or php. I am using your Autumn Concept 1.0 theme and am finally crying “uncle.” I need help to add elements to my website with Wordpress as my foundation. Could I hire you to do a freelance job? Or is there a resource out there somewhere with others who can help?
Thanks in advance,
Gloria

Ed,
Thanks, love the simplicity of the blog skin and am a newbie when it comes to blogging. I want to put something up to chronicle my travels and the other travel blogs are just too visually cacophonous.
One thing I’d like to point out is as I put in codes (simple ones like or ) the disappear whenever I go back to edit the post or page. I have to put them in all over again. Or even more simply, line breaks disappear on re-edits. Is anyone else having that problem? Tables and links stay in place.
Also, while I love that picture, can I change it? I don’t know if that shot is from Asia (though it reminds me of Thailand) or from perhaps, Ireland or the UK?! I would like to use a trip apropriate picture.
And, can I move the categories so they appear on the right, rather than at the bottom?
Thanks for making a clean and appealing template!
