Ok, I’ve started development of Ocean Mist 2.0. It’ll be a fair while before it’s released but I wanted to give you a quick rundown of what I’m planning…
- Elastic Layout
- PNG based
- Customisable colour scheme
- Better support for sites using Wordpress as a CMS
- Pre-formatted templates for portfolios, news pages, contact forms and more…
What does this mean for Authors?
As suggested by the results of my Wordpress Theme Survey, the design will retain the original theme’s simple 2 column layout. The colour scheme will be completely customisable via an easy to read ‘colour’ stylesheet, containing only the elements you’ll need to alter the colour scheme.
The HTML will be completely rewritten from scratch to allow for the new elastic layout. It will also be designed to be more compatible with a wider range of widgets and plugins ‘out-of-the-box’. The theme will be supplied with detailed documentation to help make tweaking the code easier…

Hey Ed,
I love the Ocean mist theme - I’ve had it on my wordpress.com blog from the start, and I’m just thinking about taking my hosting off there and redoing my blog, so I look forward to seeing the new Ocean Mist 2.0
keep up the good work!

I’m going to second Alex’s comment,
I’ve been using Ocean Mist at Wordpress for the last few weeks… it’s one of the nicest layouts I have seen. Based on the reactions to the Wordpress Theme Survey, I’d say you’re right on target. The areas that I wish I had control over were width, either allowing the user to set a particular width or have proportional sizing - though specifying a fixed width is usually preferable. And control over colour schemes is highly desireable, as well as control over the height of ‘page link’ boxes which appear at the top. One of the other areas, which I’m not sure you have direct control over, is that many (if not most) blogs at Wordpress have no ‘Home’ link or button. Sure you can click on the banner, but it would be really helpful if there was a home link too. Anywaym just a few ideas, and again thank you for your time and effort.

Hi, Ed–
I just started my WordPress blog yesterday, and I love Ocean Mist. In case anyone asks, where did you shoot that photo? It looks to me like the Road to Hana on Maui…?
Thanks!

Dear Ed, Thank you so much for Ocean Mist. The colors are beautiful and the separate categories are just what I wanted. One question–is it possible to change the text on the header? I’d like to get rid of “just another wordpress theme” and add “Donna Cunningham’s Blog” perhaps in the smaller text that “just another….” is in.

Hi Donna,
To change the text in the header, click the options tab in Wordpress and change your ‘Blog title’ and ‘Tagline’
