Bargain Typography
Over the past few months I’ve had a number of ideas for typefaces I’d love to try, but never found the time… until now. I’ll be producing a number of new typefaces, hopefully releasing a new one every week or so.
The plan is to keep the ideas flowing and keep the production rate high - I don’t want to spend too long fiddling with the minutae, just to try out some of these ideas which have been swimming around in my head for far too long. Hopefully the end result will be a range of more creative and experimental typefaces which I’ll then be able to scrutinise, narrow down and develop…
All will be made available for the bargain price of £2.

WFF wins ‘Best Website’ at FMA 2009
I just heard that Wiltshire Farm Foods has won the Best Website award at the 2009 Franchise Marketing Awards. I / We / Headscape and WFF have put a lot of effort into this so I’m really pleased it’s receiving some recognition.
Looking at the winner’s page though, I’m not convinced the FMA are in much of a position to pass judgement on other websites…
LOOK AT OUR SPONSORS!!! …oh, and these are the winners…
Wordpress.com themes
Hi Folks, this is just a quick note in response to the queries I’ve received about updating Ocean Mist on Wordpress.com…
The themes hosted on Wordpress.com are managed by the team there and can’t be updated by the theme authors. I suspect they let new theme versions run for a while before adding them to the site, hoping this will help weed out any potential issues with them…
So for those asking when Ocean Mist 2.0 will be available on Wordpress.com, the short answer is; I don’t know.
But if you let the team at Wordpress know you’d like to see it there, it can’t hurt…
Project Kangaroo
I’ve just discovered that a number of the team I worked with in developing Channel 4’s 4oD service have been involved in a new Video On Demand service, known as Project Kangaroo.
The service was intended to bring together full length programmes from the BBC, iTV and Channel 4, combining their current catch up services with a huge back catalogue of programmes.
Unforunately, the Competition Commision published a report on the 4th February 2009, blocking the project.
On 30 June 2008, the UK’s Office of Fair Trading referred the proposal to the Competition Commission with concerns that “there was a danger that the platform could be too powerful”. The Commission published an interim report on 03 December saying that the service could “hurt competition” and a final report on 04 February 2009 blocking the project.
Ocean Mist 2.0 Released (Finally)
Ocean Mist 2.0 is available for one and all over at tenbytwenty.com.
OM 2.0 Public Release: Monday 2pm GMT
Ocean Mist 2.0 has been with the beta testers for over a week now and the feedback has been positive, with just a couple of amendments and oversights to sort out. I’ll get these minor niggles corrected over the weekend and have the final version ready for Monday morning.
edit: I should have mentioned, Ocean Mist will be released over at www.tenbytwenty.com - but I’ll announce the release here with a link to the download page…
Custom Ocean Mist Designs
Through the new custom colour schemes in Ocean Mist 2.0 site owners will be able to completely customise their site. However, this still requires a certain level of understanding and competance with CSS.
I understand this will not be a problem for most users who will be happy fiddling with the CSS until they have a colour scheme they are happy with, but it occured to me that there are probably a number of users out there who either:
- Don’t have a clue how to edit CSS and would rather not touch it
- Have a specific brand to represent and would prefer their site was customised by a design proffesional
If you think you might fit into either of these groups, would you be interested in a fixed price design customisation service?
You’d need to supply a logo if required, specific colours you’d like to use and any other material which would help describe the design you’d like to acheive. From here I’d mock up the customised design in Photoshop for you to approve or suggest one round of alterations. Then take this design and create a customsed version of the theme which I’d email back to you, ready for you to install.
Is this something you think you might be interested in?
Ocean Mist 2.0 beta
The inital release of Ocean Mist 2.0 has been shipped out to everyone who kindly volunteered to help with the testing process. I’m really looking forward to hearing their feedback and ultimately getting the theme into the public domain…
If you’d like to get your hands on a copy of the theme asap and help with the testing process, please let me know.
Ocean Mist 2.0 update
Ocean Mist is almost complete. Here’s a quick update of what’s changed and what’s still to do etc…
A good month
It’s been a good month here at #theBarn:
- Boagworld won best podcast in the .net awards
- Paul got profiled in the same issue of .net
- Marcus wrote a great article for 24ways
- and apparently I’m the designer of the month and of the millenium
Oh, actually, that’s just this week…
