I recently designed the Big Butterfly Count website, a nationwide survey to assess the health of our environment for Butterfly Conservation, in association with Marks & Spencer as part of their Plan A commitment to improving the environment.
Visitors to the site are able to browse a selection of common and less common butterflies and create a list of which they've sighted, where, when and the type of habitat where their sighting was conducted.
Sightings will be collected over a two month period during the summer and up-to-the-minute results shown available through the site. At the end of the sighting period, the results will be analysed and the findings will be published in a more detailed report.
The brief called for a bright, natural background scene and after considering a large photo, I decided it would be a great opportunity to try out the parallax technique I'd seen done so well on the Silverback and Rissington sites.
I won't go into too much detail about how the technique is created, Paul Annett has already written a great article over at Think Vitamin, explaining it far better than I would anyway.
