EDF are a US based Environmental agency who work with, rather than against companies and governments to tackle the most urgent environmental threats to the climate, oceans, ecosystems and people's health. In their own words "In all our work, we combine science, economics and law to get results".
My brief was to design and build a range of templates which would reflect the brand's existing identity, while engaging its audience and presenting a more approachable face to visitors than had been achieved in previous iterations of the site.
I created a hugely flexible grid system designed to let the client to create virtually any page layout they may need. This flexibility, coupled with a broad library of page elements, formatting options and interactive elements will enable them to build on the templates I've provided in the future.
I developed some new techniques for this project which included using media queries not just to react to the viewport's width, but also its height. Try resizing your browser window while viewing the site, or take a look at Paul Boag's article on the approach I took: Are Media Queries the answer to the Fold?
Using media queries I was able to create a range of flexible templates which would respond to different viewing environments, both horizontally and vertically.
